CLAY TALKS

INSPIRATION IN THE MAKING

Ekta Bagri is a ceramic researcher and artist who bridges archaeology, sustainable ceramic practices, and kiln construction. Currently based at the University of Oxford, pursuing a degree in Archaeology, Ekta’s research focuses on archaeological approaches to ceramics, particularly ancient firing technologies. At the same time, she also teaches and assists with kiln building and anagama firings for the Oxford Kilns Project.

A graduate of the Royal College of Art (MA in Ceramics & Glass) and Goldsmiths, University of London (BA Fine Art & History of Art), Ekta has presented her work internationally, including a recent solo exhibition at Ruup & Form Gallery in November 2024. Through residencies in Denmark, France, South Korea, Japan, India, and Vietnam, she has honed expert experience in wood-fired and primitive kilns, collaborating with physicists, archaeologists, and traditional artisans.

Her approach to integrating traditional methods with contemporary sustainability solutions has earned her notable recognition, including nominations for the New Material Award and the Future Impact Award in 2023.

She continues to engage communities through lectures, workshops, and fast-fire courses, sharing her innovative approaches to ceramic art while preserving its ancient roots.
